Every year millions of people travel abroad for dental treatment. Americans have been routinely travelling to Mexico for cheaper dental care as around fifty percent of Americans are not covered under their insurance policy for dental treatment. In 2007 around 35,000 British travelled abroad for dental treatment. In 2008 and 2009 this number doubled. Dental tourists can expect to save nearly £4,000 on average for dental treatment abroad, compared to in the UK, including the additional expenses of travel and accommodation.

As well as the price considerations many are opting to go abroad for their dental treatment because they simply cannot get seen by a NHS dentist. Consumer magazine and website, Which? Said that more than a million Britons can’t get an appointment for dental treatment on the NHS and hundreds of dentists had left the NHS service in recent years. So with fewer NHS dentists, long waiting times and ever increasing costs of private dental treatment, many British are going abroad to find a good dentist.

Organising Dental Treatment Abroad

Whilst it is of course possible to simply go on holiday and try and organise dental treatment when at your destination, many people opt to use a specialist dental tourism agency. The agency will usually see you locally, and  will organise a free initial consultation in London, draw up a personalised treatment plan and help you arrange all travel arrangements to the destination of your treatment.
