Inlay
Inlays are recommended in situations where a cavity has affected two more surfaces of one tooth or to replace older amalgam fillings, to cover teeth that have been drilled for root canal problems and in other cases where the inner tooth tissue is missing. The procedure takes two appointments; one to prepare the tooth and take an impression and then the inlay is prepared in the laboratory and then adhered to the tooth. Inlays can help preserve the remaining healthy part of the tooth and can also be used for cosmetic reasons to alter the colour of the tooth or to later the structure of the tooth.
Inlays are usually made from a mixture of Belle Glass and porcelain and so last from 8 to 12 years. There are many different types of inlays depending on the situation and the patient’s budget.
